Current music:Gomez, "We Haven't Turned Around"

IBARW: Follow-through 3
Three this time. And one of them even has color. OMG. (sort of.)

The general effect I was going for here was a cross between Chiho Saito (creator of the REVOLUTIONARY GIRL UTENA manga) and my usual art. I have no idea if I pulled it off, and I'm afraid I didn't do a good job of capturing Anita's character, regardless. :/

I went with the comics version because, while my first exposure was the cartoon, Milestone doesn't get enough recognition in the comics fan community. Another attempt to mix my usual method with another person's visual style; in this case, I was consciously aping John Paul Leon's early work on the original STATIC monthly. I think I succeeded.

Apparently, this set was the "experimental" set, because I really tried stretching my style in different directions for all of these drawings. Travis kind of demanded a bit of a change in artistic direction, being a real person and thus requiring a bit more attention to detail than the rest. I think I captured his likeness rather well.

I was never into Anita, but I love the way you portray her here. She seems more plausible as a human being here, and I actually find myself interested.

Static is made of joy and love and squee. I love the sense of hope and -- well, *joy* that comes through with that expression.

Meanwhile, the fact that I knew exactly who Travis was without having read the cut tag or your text tells me that you did a damned good job. The expression -- as usual! -- is the cream on the cupcake.

This is encouraging! Because I was worried I'd accidentally made her less plausible to fans of the YJ art style, because - since she's never appeared anywhere else without the colorist making her white - it's that style she's most recognizable in.

I love the sense of hope and -- well, *joy* that comes through with that expression.

Yay! Because, y'know, it's not like that doesn't, to me, exemplify his character, or anything. XD; Static is hope personified, in a lot of ways. I just love him so much. (Why won't WB release that show on DVD ;_; WANT.)

I knew exactly who Travis was without having read the cut tag or your text

:D :D :D Really, I have nothing to say in response to that except :D.

Your Travis is awesome in so many impossible ways. His sense of fun is highlighted by the great color work.

Anita's pose seems to throw me off, mainly because I'm trying to imagine how her spine works; I think this is just perspective wonkiness, though.

But her face is a face that works because it's removed from the YJ style. Nauck's style is really an acquired taste, and I was never fond of it.

Travis is a goof. A perpetually-stoned goof who wears horrifyingly bad hoodies. I would be lying if I said I was not trying to capture that part of him, because, well, Travis.

(I need to work him into my bandom WIP folder. I may not care for GCH's average musical output, but Travis needs more fucking love.)

Anita's pose . . . is a pose that would work better if I had been willing to draw the entire body, rather than have half of it disappear out of frame, but my hand was starting to cramp up and I wanted to finish the sketch first. The spinal confusion, however, is squarely the fault of my inspiration - BePapas' in-house artistic quirks make for odd skeletal shapes.

Agreed; I tolerated it on YJ because it was usually so expressive, but I can't stand it on FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN.

I love your Anita, here. I don't know the other two, but you make me wish I did, especially the second guy.

The colors in the third really *sing* for me.

Thanks! The second guy's Virgil Hawkins, aka Static, who later got his own piece of the DCAU called STATIC SHOCK. You've never seen it?

I thought you had. If I had any episodes, I'd rectify this. Because Virgil = LOVE AND JOY AND AWESOME FOREVER.

*fistpump* :D
